Three state
organizations that appealed to me were:
- Advocates for Children of New Jersey- I chose this organization because it is their mission to be the voice for children, since they are not old enough to vote and will not be heard. This organization identifies children’s needs through research, policy and legal analysis and to raise awareness of the needs they find as well as to work with government officials to find an effective response to their needs. Their main goal is to help children grow up safe, healthy, and educated in hopes of them growing up to be productive adults. My passion is to inspire children to be all they can and with this driving force I have, it correlates to the mission and vision of this organization.
- NJAEYC (New Jersey Association for the Education of Young Children)- I chose this association because their main focus is devoted to high quality early childhood programs through improvements in professional practice and improving public understanding as well as support and funding of high quality programs in center, homes, and schools. Their mission is to advance excellence in the field of early childhood education. I want to make a difference in the early childhood field and this association has this focus.
- Prevent Child Abuse- I chose this organization because I do not think any child should have to be a victim of child abuse. I want to decrease the number of children who are abused and to help those who have already been abused. The mission of this organization is to prevent child abuse. This organization is the only state-wide non-profit organization that is dedicated to preventing child abuse in all of its form.

Thanks for the great information! Do all early childhood education center directors, in the state of NJ, need their Master's degree or was it just for those specific positions? I find it amazing the varying levels of education needed to do the same job in different states. What is your opinion?
ReplyDeleteThe masters degree was for those specific positions. I was looking to see jobs that were available and the qualifications for those jobs and that is what I found. I know to be an administrator in NJ you need to be certified but not necessarily have a masters degree, although it might be preferred. I think it amazing how each state differs when it comes to applying for the same position. I am not sure who creates the qualifications from state to state, but in my opinion, if we are doing the same job, I would think the qualifications should be the same across the board. But, again that is just my opinion.
DeleteHi Victoria,
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing what local and state organizations appealed to you. The NAEYC is one that I have always found to be full of resources that I have used throughout my courses here at Walden. It would be a wonderful opportunity to work, learn, and share with a group of professionals that share the same interest. All the best.
Great post and thank-you for sharing information about abuse children. I live in NJ also and it great to know about other organization. I also think NAEYC is a great resource and it have given me great resource through-out my journey in early childhood education.

Hello Victoria!
ReplyDeleteYou chose three great organizations as community of practices. The one that resonated with me the most is Advocates for Children. We are children and families advocates. We are the middle link that helps children and families receive services and resources that they are in need of. Often parents are not aware of their rights or knowledgeable of services that they and their families are entitled to. Advocacy work comes with the assignment as an educator. One of my personal goals is to strengthen my advocacy efforts in helping children and families. There are many resources that I am not fully aware of. As an educator, I believe that I need to stay abreast of resources and organizations that can assist and offer services that are much needed in many families. Thanks for sharing!

Victoria,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading about the organizations you are interested in. I really liked the Prevent Child Abuse organization. In Atlanta, GA, over the last couple of months children have been abused and been killed due to them not leaving putting away guns, a child was starved to death, several left in a hot car, the list goes on. I have been really interested lately in finding out where are the organizations where children can be safe from neglectful parents. Thanks for sharing.
Victoria, I enjoyed reading your blog, thanks for sharing this information. NAEYC is a great organization and is recognized for their contributions to society everywhere.
