My Personal Childhood Web

My Personal Childhood Web

I am surrounded by so many wonderful family and friends that for me it was hard to even narrow it down. I would like to start first by introducing my mother because without her I would not be who I am today.

My mom is one of my best friends. I can go to her for anything even if I just need someone to vent to. I was influenced by my mom because she was the best mom anyone could have. I always wanted to grow up and be like her and raise my kids the same way she raised me. My mom would give up anything and everything to give her kids what they needed or wanted.  Whenever we needed her she was there for us. My mom works 80 or more hours a week just to put food on the table and pay the bills. In addition to working, my mom is also going to school for her masters to better her career. My mom is the one who inspired me to go back for my masters. I knew that if she could do it, I could do it too. Who knew that after having a child of my own I would still be just as influenced by my mom as I was when I was a little girl. I love my mom and admire all she has done throughout her life.  In addition to being the best mom and role model for me, she is the most excited and thrilled grandma I know. She adores my son and can’t wait to see him after a hard day of work.

The next person I would like you to meet is my older sister Stephanie. Stephanie is 13 months older than I am. We did everything together when we were little even wore the same outfits just in different colors. As we grew up our relationship changed because she always thought I wasn’t as good as her or as popular so she would always leave me out of things. Recently though, we have grown much closer than we have ever been. She comes to me for advice on different issues. She always wants my opinion similar to how I am with her. She watches my son a couple days a week for me while I work. I really am thankful we were able to come back together after years of not getting along. Even though we may not have been close for a short part of our lives, I was still constantly learning from her. I would watch what she did and sometimes go and do the same thing. Other times I was just there to listen to her and she did the same for me. Today, she means the world to me and I would not want it any other way. I love and care about her and would do anything for her as she would for me. Stephanie recently got married and I was the happiest girl ever sharing my sister’s special day with her alongside her as her maid of honor.

The third person who made an impact on my life is my younger sister Michelle who we all call “Chelle”. Chelle and I shared a room growing up. Every night before going to bed we would share our day with each other. We would tell each other everything. She is someone I love and care for her just as much as she does for me. Even though Chelle may be in another state at this point in her life, I know our relationship only grows stronger. Michelle was always one who would be completely honest with you no matter how upset it made you. She was never one to hide the truth. I always knew I would get a straight answer when I went to her about an outfit or my hair and makeup. Chelle is the godmother to my child and I know she will take what she taught me through the years and teach my son the same way to be.

Altogether, my family is very loving, caring and supportive of me. They have left a mark on me and continue to support me in all my decisions. I would not be the person I am today without the impact of so many people.

Student Who Touched My Heart

Last year, I had a student who had a rough home life. He did not have a place he felt safe at. Even at school, he thought his dad would show up and hurt him. He was below grade level academically and socially he had little friends. All this little boy wanted was to read. I would work with him every day and stay after school one day a week for an hour to tutor him. By the end of first grade, his work improved drastically. When I spoke to his teacher this year to see how he was doing, she said he was on a third grade reading level. I was so proud of him that despite his home life, he never gave up and learned how to read on his own.

Inspiring Quotes

Two quotes about children and teaching that that stand out to me are:

"We worry about what a child will become tomorrow, yet we forget that he is someone today."
-Stacia Tauscher

I especially like this quote because it really is true in some schools. Teachers can get so wrapped up in where the students need to be at the end of the year and how they perform on standardized testing that we forget who they are at that moment. I believe, we as teachers need to stop and just let kids be kids some days and just hear what they have to say. It is so nice to listen to what my students have to say. They all have a personality of their own and can be looked over when everything is so serious.

I also like:

 "All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them."
<!--[if !supportLists]-->-          <!--[endif]-->Walt Disney

I like this quote because first Walt Disney is an amazing person who touched the lives of so many. But secondly because this statement is true in everyones life. We teach our students what they need to know as they grow up. In addition to just curriculum, we teach them to never give up and that all their dreams and goals can come true if they work hard towards them. This is exactly what Walt Disney is saying. Our dreams can only come true if we have the courage to go for them.

Road to Success

The first week of class has been a bit challenging for me. I am learning to navigate my way through blackboard. I have never used a blog site before so if anyone has any suggestions please feel free to let me know. I am excited to embark on this new journey and I have faith it will get easier for me. Time is of essence and I know I can do it once I get into the grove.
